Mission Statement of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph
We, the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph, witness the Gospel in joy and peace, committed to prayer, service, and care for all creation.
Adopted July 10, 2011
As Third Order Franciscans, our mission is to live the Gospel way of life through the four core values of poverty, minority, contemplation and conversion. The way of expressing this mission has evolved over time in a variety of ministries depending on the changing needs of God's people. Originally, the ministerial focus was mainly on education. However, the desire "to serve God and God's people where needed" caused the sisters to broaden their scope of ministries. In 1926 the congregation initiated care for the aging and infirmed. After that, and to this day, the mission is fulfilled through a variety of ministries in the areas of prayer, advocacy, education, health care, parish work, and social service ministries. The Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph seek to be a voice for the vulnerable as they respond to new needs among God's people while they share their lives, worship and service.
The general administration building/Motherhouse is in Hamburg NY.
